Michael Marfell-Jones

Trained at the University of Otago (New Zealand), Loughborough University (England) and Simon Fraser University (Canada), Professor Mike Marfell-Jones is the current Treasurer in New Zealand of the International Society for the Advancement of Kinanthropometry (ISAK) and ISAK Level 4 Criterion Anthropometrist Emeritus. He is Professor of Kinanthropometry at the Catholic University of Murcia, Murcia, Spain, but resides in Wellington, New Zealand, for much of the year. Early in his career he was involved in secondary teaching in New Zealand, before moving into the tertiary sector, working in universities in both New Zealand and Canada. After more than 40 years working with sports scientists and athletes, his interests are in anatomy, sports science and anthropometrist training. Professor Mike was Vice President of ISAK from 1996 to 2000, President from 2000 to 2008, Secretary General from 2008 to 2012, Past President from 2008 to 2014, Treasurer since 2014 and President again from 2014 to 2024. He was appointed Life Member in 2008 and Level 4 Emeritus in 2024.
Maria Filomena Soares Vieira
Lisboa, PortugalFilomena Vieira holds a degree in Physical Education and a PhD in Human Kinetics from the University of Lisbon. She is a professor and researcher specialising in Kinanthropometry. Her career has focused on growth and maturation, body composition, and the musculoskeletal system. Accredited as ISAK Level 3 in 1998 and Level 4 in 2008, she has contributed to ISAK through training, congress organisation, participation on the Council, and the translation and adaptation of official materials.
Filomena Vieira holds a degree in Physical Education and a PhD in Human Kinetics from the University of Lisbon. She began her academic career in 1985 and has been teaching in the field of Kinanthropometry since 1993. She is currently an Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Human Kinetics and a researcher at the Interdisciplinary Centre for the Study of Human Performance (CIPER). Her research career has focused on growth and maturation, body composition, and the influence of mechanical loading on the musculoskeletal system, working with different populations, including children and adolescents, women during pregnancy and postpartum, and athletes with cerebral palsy. In 1998, she obtained ISAK Level 3 accreditation and, in 2008, was recognised as an ISAK Level 4 Criterion Anthropometrist. She has actively contributed to ISAK through the organisation of accreditation courses in Portugal and Brazil, the organisation of the first independent ISAK Congress in 2010, and her membership of the ISAK Council from 2020 to 2026. She has also contributed to the Portuguese translation of the ISAK Manual and ISAKmetry, as well as to the adaptation of the International Standards for Anthropometric Assessment for people with motor disabilities.
